Who has been the most surprising player so far in the 2007 NFL season?
A lot of people counted him down and out after both the 2005 and 2006 seasons, even urged him to retire. Given his current status, I can't think of another player (not even close) that has garnered more respect (well-deserved) from the entire league and fans no matter which colors you wave on Sunday (or Monday night). I was delighted to see him surpass Dan Marino's all-time touchdown record (420) two weeks ago. I think it's safe to say that #4 is neither down nor out and I'm looking forward to witnessing further greatness during the 2007 season and beyond.
I have been in sports heaven lately. I feel like a guy because I've started to tune people out and replay Sportscenter highlights in my head no matter what time of day or night it happens to be. With the World Cup, NBA and Stanley Cup finals all going on, It's all i can think about. In additional, just knowing that a new season of NFL football is around the corner makes me giddy.
Here's the dish:
The US team has one more shot to play like they belong among the elite football organizations of the world. Tomorrow, they face Italy in their second World Cup appearance after getting shut out 3-0, and completely annihilated by a well respected #2 ranked Czech Republic team. I watched that game and was absolutely devasted by the 80th minute. I want to believe that they will do better against Italy. I plan to watch the game but won't be placing any bets on our boys!
Dwyane Wade is the only player in the Finals that cannot be stopped. He takes Dallas's defense anywhere he wants to go and they still have no answers. He scored 34 points last night in the Heat's win last night. That win tied the series 2-2 and it's ON! Previously, I'd predicted that the Heat would win in four games but clearly after losing games one and two I stood corrected. It's amazing the edge teams have while on their home court. The confidence of the Miami Heat is finally starting to show and I can't wait to see what they do in game five on Sunday before the series returns to Dallas.
I watched the game earlier this week and was thrilled when it when regulation time expired and OT began. I was anxious to see Carolina close it out when the Oilers came out of nowhere and scored on Carolina's power play. I still think Carolina will take it in game six but Edmonton definitely made a strong statement. A part of me is rooting for the Oilers because they beat the Sharks...sorry Joe Green!
