If you are lucky enough not to be feeling the effects of the economy you can take advantage of one of many crazy deals happening in the city this weekend.
Pamper yourself- Dermalounge is offering their Signature Facial for $75. You have to buy two and use them both w/in ten days but it's well worth it.
If you're sick of your apartment and feel like staying in one of the nicest SF Hotels you can find yourself in a King Suite with a city view at the Fairmont for around $100/night. You have to call directly but they will more than likely hook you up.
is that never in my craziest thoughts would i ever have expected to reconnect with someone i hadn't seen in 20 years! A few months ago, i received a friend request from my long lost neighbor/friend, Eddie Bird. It was such a blast from the past. Soon enough i was connected with his whole family (mom included) on Facebook.
To take things a step further i surely never thought I'd see Eddie Bird anytime soon. He moved away to Cincinnati 20 years ago and has been there ever since while my family remained on the Left Coast. To my surprise, he booked a ticket and headed west to reunite (and thaw out from the chilly Midwest weather) with Jamie, Vinnie and me.
If you were in San Francisco last weekend you can imagine Eddie's delight at the weather we had all three days. The views into the city were incredible.
No wonder he debated missing his plane on Monday morning. I would too if i knew that the dismal ice and snow awaited me. It was one of those weekends that made me even more proud to live in this city. There is nothing like seeing SF for the first time through some else's eyes.
Of course, the city has many other things to offer, like world-class cuisine, fun-filled night life and saki bombs! Eddie had never done a saki bomb, so when i found out he liked sushi it was on.
We made a giant mess but had a lot of fun. i hope this is a past time that the Birdman shares with his friends back home. One adjustment though- use taller glasses.
After sushi, we trotted/stumbled over to the Buckshot, my new favorite dive bar in the Inner Richmond. Bars with personality are a must and this one has a lot of it. Here are just two examples:
The DJ at this bar was very in-tune with their clientele playing mostly late 80's and early 90's jamz with the occassional familiar favorite thrown in (Journey, baby!). There was nothing else to do but cut a serious run.
And just like that the weekend was over just like my time as a tour guide...
Two years ago today, I said goodbye to family and friends in Washington, packed up two suitcases, jumped on a plane, and started my new life in San Francisco.
I remember arriving at my sister's house at around 4 PM with a slew of bittersweet feelings. I had a mere 16 hours before I would hold my head high and walk through the doors of my new office at Six Apart. A mere 24 hours prior, my best friend got married which officially made the three day span to which I'm referring, the most intense of my life to date.
The past two years have been really 'epic'. I have a lot of pride for this city and am glad for the decision I made. So far, so good; I have made great friends, furthered the bond with my sis, met a truly amazing guy and have taken some unforgettable trips. Overall, I just feel lucky to be here, proud of what I've accomplished, and am excited to see what the next two years hold.
