Alright, Deanna Favre, you win!
I was distraught by the news of Brett Favre's retirement today. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he has played 17 seasons and has more records than any other quarterback in NFL history BUT his best season yet was played last year, so why stop now? I thought for sure that being knocked out one game shy of the SuperBowl would be enough to convince him and everyone else that his time is not yet over. I suppose my assessment is somewhat selfish but I'm just not ready to see him go (unlike Aaron Rodgers who I'm certain did a double back flip when he received the call- you're up kid). Oh well, I'm drafting a new 'favorite' NFL player...any suggestions?
I didn't document my predictions of Super Bowl XLII but I don't think I was alone in assuming that Sunday's game would be uneventful punctuated by moments of sheer boredom. But as I and 97.5 million others tuned in to the game, there was certainly enough to keep that channel on lock down. Admittingly, I wasn't sure who I wanted to win...19-0 would mean witnessing history but a monumental upset by an NFC Wild Card team was also a tempting vote. After 3 quarters, I was all in for the Giants. They looked like a championship team, especially with Tom Brady on his back most of the game. The Giants had a true Cinderella season and finished with the ultimate prize. It's great to see the honor of winning a Super Bowl delivered to a team full of players to had never won, and who rightfully deserved it.
Before I get too carried away on a Giant's rant, the one true question is- Will I pick Eli Manning in the first round over Tom Brady for my fantasy football team this year- pishaw! Brady is indisputably the best QB, hands down. That's why we were all on the edge of our seats with 10 seconds to go in the 4th...10 seconds is an eternity for Tom Brady.
Good game!
I realize that the average football fan could probably care less about tonight's Monday Night game, but I am not an average fan and the San Francisco, Seattle rivalry is alive and well. Yes, the NFC West is by far the weakest division in the NFL, but I have no doubt that tonight will deliver some quality moments.
Seattle is favored by 14 points but because I've been a Seahawks fan long enough, I never hang my hat on predictions. I'm a realist and know that Alexander is performing below average (3.5 yards/carry) and Matt Hassleback is struggling w/out Branch. Having said that, I will be glowing blue and green tonight as I (fingers crossed) celebrate my team's victory on the Monday Night stage.
This video is somewhat cheesy, but it makes me nostalgic:
It's no secret...I am one of those adoring NFL fans that the really does beg the question, 'Is it Monday yet?'. I don't know what it is about Brett Favre, but he owns Monday Night. There are countless games I can recall where he was simply electrifying. Last night proved no different as he lead the charge and dropped two bombs on Denver, the second in OT (first play) to win the game. I can just picture Champ Bailey waking up this morning, scratching his head and replaying the first play of Green Bay's second possession in the first quarter when he (7 time pro bowler) got burnt, bad. If you missed the game, I'm sorry for you, b/c it was truly magical.
I know that Green Bay's chances of going to the Super Bowl are likely non-existent despite their 6-1 record, but I am just thrilled that Favre is showing the rest of the league and his young team that '38 is the new 28'. I love the Seahawks, don't get me wrong, but if you are true fan of the sport, how can you not be a Green Bay advocate?
