Beer, good. Hot sauce, good.
The Michelada is a tasty beverage that I recently discovered at a bar downtown called Cantina.
I liked it so much a friend looked it up for me on webtender.com (love that site).
Ingredients:
- 12 oz Beer
- Juice of 1 Lemon
- 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- 1 dash Soy sauce
- 1 dash Tabasco sauce
- 1 pinch Black pepper
- Salt to taste
Mixing instructions:
Mix ingredients in a tall high glass with lots of ice. Add beer at the end. Mix and enjoy.
Since the rain forced me to stay inside all weekend I decided to focus my attention on the kitchen. Breakfast is one of those meals that I normally don't bother with let alone prepare or shop for unless I'm hosting a brunch so I'm left to create something out of whatever is on hand. What I came up with is a glorified Sausage McMuffin.
- Whole wheat english muffin
- one egg (any non-runny preparation works)
- two jennie-o lean turkey sausage patties
- two slices brie
Soooo good with the brie and super quick. No doubt it will be a weekend staple from now on.
I may be wrong, but according to my calculations, there are more sushi restaurants in San Francisco than in any other city in the US per square mile. I honestly think it would take a year of eating out at least once per week to sample every single sushi restaurant in the city. I definitely have my favorites which at times prohibits me from branching out, which is just silly because I am rarely displeased with the results of a new discovery.
Last night, my friend Nicole and i went to Naked Fish on Chestnut Street. From the front it doesn't look like much (as shown) but there is a whole back area that is incredibly quaint.
Other pleasant surprises included generous glasses of wine, a large and inventive menu and beautifully plated rolls all offered at extremely reasonable prices. I had the Mango Tango roll which consisted of fresh crab, mango, a to die for wasabi sauce all wrapped in this incredibly soft, delicious dough. It was not typical sushi but it was damn good. Nicole played it safe and ordered a philly roll (salmon and cream cheese), also good.Overall, I was impressed. Give it a chance if you feel like branching out.
Show us something that rocks.
Last weekend was an absolute blast. On Friday I flew to LA to meet up with Rick and a group of friends to begin our adventure down to Mammoth, or more specifically, Bishop, a neighboring town. The caravan from LA was an adventure with three cars, ours being the caboose (Rick, Kevin and me). We finally arrived at Kate's childhood home (so cool) at 2 AM on Saturday morning where we promptly cracked open some beers (and vino) and celebrated the official start of our weekend.
Saturday was a relaxing day for me as I chose not to inflict potential injury on myself by attempting to ski or snowboard. I went on a fabulous hike with Kate's mom (aka, the coolest woman I've ever met) and their pooches, Beau and Hunter. Just a week earlier this desert looking landscape was covered in snow.
Later on that evening when everyone returned home from a day on the mountain, we sat down and enjoyed a delectable meal prepared by Kate's mom, the Cordon Bleu chef. The wine, beef and Jagger were flowing freely (as it should have) and we were all feeling good.
This was one of the best groups of people I've ever traveled with which was amazing considering I had only ever met Kevin and of course known Rick prior to that weekend. That night was honestly filled with so much laughter and silly banter that it felt like we had all known each other for years.
One more tid bit i can't possibly leave out- the sand rail (aka, dune buggy). David built this thing allegedly for his dad but doesn't go w/out enjoying it on his own (who wouldn't? I'm obsessed). It was one of the most exhilarating rides I've ever been on which was apparent with dilated pupils and all.
This is the last picture I took in Mammoth...and it's so fitting. I only wish I'd had my Bloggystyle t-shirt.
I"m not quite sure I'll be able to top this trip in the future, not only because it was so fun, but also because I met people who I now call friends and who i can't wait to create and share memories with from here on out.
By the way, if anyone wants to blow this pop stand and move to Mammoth, I'm in!
Last night, as a team building exercise/reward, the marketing department enjoyed an incredible hockey game. It did happen to be in a penthouse suite, which wasn't bad either. This was my first San Jose Sharks game but also my first hockey game in about two decades. Here are some pics from the event:
One of my favorite parts of a live hockey game is seeing the fights. The refs did a great job of keeping things in check...as you can see they are not small guys by any means. Definitely taking a page out of Ed Hockuley's book (a ref in the NFL)
Jacquie is the reason we actually had the box...she traded it for use during the daytime hours of her parking spot (while she's at work) in the city...nice trade! Needless to say, we had a great time...it was even captured on the Jumbotron. A former co-worker of Jacquie's identified her and asked, "who is the crazy blonde?". Hey, I'm a sports fan...the correct term is 'spirited'.
Can't wait to go back for another game, although I'm pretty sure the view will be a little different.
Four years ago, many of us were first introduced to Barack Obama via his powerful speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. That was the first speech ever given by any 'politician' that actually moved me. I remember watching and hanging on every word, and at one point, I subconsciously stood up in my living room and began to applaud.
Today is Super Tuesday, a day I believe will be one we won't soon forget; both electric and historical. Please exercise this privilege and duty as citizens-- get out there and vote!
I didn't document my predictions of Super Bowl XLII but I don't think I was alone in assuming that Sunday's game would be uneventful punctuated by moments of sheer boredom. But as I and 97.5 million others tuned in to the game, there was certainly enough to keep that channel on lock down. Admittingly, I wasn't sure who I wanted to win...19-0 would mean witnessing history but a monumental upset by an NFC Wild Card team was also a tempting vote. After 3 quarters, I was all in for the Giants. They looked like a championship team, especially with Tom Brady on his back most of the game. The Giants had a true Cinderella season and finished with the ultimate prize. It's great to see the honor of winning a Super Bowl delivered to a team full of players to had never won, and who rightfully deserved it.
Before I get too carried away on a Giant's rant, the one true question is- Will I pick Eli Manning in the first round over Tom Brady for my fantasy football team this year- pishaw! Brady is indisputably the best QB, hands down. That's why we were all on the edge of our seats with 10 seconds to go in the 4th...10 seconds is an eternity for Tom Brady.
Good game!
